Sander van Amelsvoort

Policy and Research Manager

Sander joined the Board in November 2013 and helps facilitate trade ties between Australia and the Netherlands.

Having studied and worked in the Netherlands, Sander moved to Australia in 2009 to work for O-I Asia Pacific, the world's largest glass container manufacturer, where he worked on the regional strategy plans and expansion in the Asian markets. In 2012 he moved to the Victorian Employers' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI) where he undertook business and industry research projects to support VECCI’s advocacy efforts and give business a voice towards government.

In his current role at the Committee for Melbourne, Sander is responsible for high-level policy and research work on key issues affecting Melbourne’s growth and development. In this role, he helps to formulate strategies for change that add value to the long-term development of Greater Melbourne as a major internationally competitive city.

Prior to his move to Australia, Sander worked for Philips and interned at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He graduated First Class Honours for his Master's degree in Political Science (International Relations), while holding a Bachelor's degree in Financial Services Management. During his studies he participated in a number of extracurricular activities, including a student investment association, United Nations simulations at Oxford and Harvard and exchange programs in Iran and Portugal.

In his free time, Sander enjoys traveling, playing sports and anything food and wine related.


Ron van Riet


Program Director

Ron is a seasoned Program Delivery Executive and Program Director with significant experience working with large scale Systems Integration (SAP) and Infrastructure experience gained mainly across two major consulting companies, CSC and now IBM.  He has managed programs of work well in excess of $50 Million. He also managed large complex support contracts for multinationals in the SAP and enterprise services space. Ron is currently IBM’s  Program Director for the Southern Region and responsible for end-2-end RFS delivery for a suite of large and medium sized clients.
Ron studied Business Economy and Information Technology at the Fontys Hogeschool in Venlo and holds a variety of certificates of the Netherlands Institute of Information Technology (AMBI)
Ron joined the NCCA Board in May 2013 as a regular board member and became Vice-President in October 2013.

Managing Director

Hendrik Karsten is Managing Director of Karstens Conference & Training Venues, purpose built Australia Wide Venues specialising in Conference space, Computer Training rooms, Mediation and Video Conferencing.
Hendrik is a Director on the board of Climate Alliance, a not for profit organization that engages with business leaders and communicates the opportunities and risks of climate change.
Prior to Karstens Hendrik successfully managed Function Venues and Restaurants in Melbourne.

May has been in the Travel Industry for over 30 years working for many different Airlines in various sales roles.  Originally born in Egypt, as she grew up she was taught an array of languages and cultures which led to her to develop a passion for the World's stories and travel. She is now fluent in five languages which she believes has contributed to making her successful in sales. May is a great communicator and is always interested in people and what makes them tick. She has travelled extensively around the World and holds a degree in Politics from the University of Melbourne.

Ellis James has 15 years of domestic and international sales and marketing experience in the airline and corporate incentive travel industries.
As a tour director she has travelled extensively and has a rich knowledge of conducting business in a variety of cultures. 
Since arriving in Melbourne in 2011 Ellis has been actively involved in the Dutch community, including as treasurer for the Dutch Playgroup and as a mentor to new Melbournians.
Ellis is currently running her own business consulting to travel and non-travel related organisations on sales and marketing matters.
