Orange Elevator Pitch

The Netherlands Chamber of Commerce Australia (NCCA) launches the ‘Orange Elevator Pitch’. With this initiative the NCCA aims to provide more background information to members about members.

Every fortnight the NCCA will introduce a member that has a story to share with the NCCA Network. This allows other members to better understand the depth and breadth of the NCCA Network and provides opportunities to network for business.

Who: Tineke Millard

What: Owner Dutch Translations

Could you tell us a bit about your (professional) background?

My name is Tineke Millard (born Nemegeer) and I was born in Belgium. I migrated to Australia in 1997. My educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Psychology which was validated by the Psychology Board of Australia. However, due to my passion for languages and travel, I set out to become a translator. In 2001, I gained accreditation from the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), established Dutch Translations and became a member of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT).

What do you think makes you / your company successful in Australia?

My mission is to provide quality translation and interpreting services to customers in Australia and worldwide. This commitment to quality means that the work I deliver must be accurate, correct in grammar, spelling, style, register and format and suitable for the target market.

Translations undergo a rigorous process before they are delivered to the customer. Interpreting assignments are always preceded by reviewing requirements against existing knowledge and skills and ensuring the task at hand can be handled with confidence.

Can you share some professional tips for NCCA members and / or fellow Dutchies starting out in Australia?

I would say professional development is an important part of staying up to date in any industry so networking inside and outside of your industry is extremely important to keep abreast of the latest developments and to make the necessary contacts to further your business prospects.

And can you tell us why you made the move to Australia?

I happened to meet a beautiful Australian man whilst holidaying in Portugal and he wooed me to Australia! It was not easy being so far from home, but I have loved every minute of reigniting the passion for languages I have had from a young age.
